TakeHomeIncome (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates the website available at takehomeincome.com. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the site, why we collect it, how it is stored, and what rights you have over it.
1. Who we are
TakeHomeIncome provides free, country-aware take-home pay calculators built on verified official tax sources. Where this Privacy Policy refers to “the service” we mean the public website and the calculator APIs that power it.
You can contact us via the Contact page if you have any questions about your data.
2. What personal data we collect
You can use the public calculator without an account. If you choose to create an account, save a calculation, or share a result, we collect the following:
- Account data: your email address, first name, last name, and a hashed password — all handled by our authentication provider, Supabase.
- Saved calculation data: the inputs you enter (region, gross income, pay frequency, optional advanced fields) and the calculated result. Stored against your account so you can revisit it later.
- Shared result data: a redacted snapshot of a saved calculation, accessible via a randomly generated share token. The shared copy contains no name or email — only the calculation.
- Feedback messages: any text and optional email you submit through the “Report an issue or request a feature” form.
- Cookies and local storage: see § 4 below for the full list.
- Server logs: standard request metadata (IP address, user-agent, referrer, timestamp) retained for security and abuse protection. We do not use these logs for advertising.
We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. We do not collect payment information.
3. How we use your data
- To authenticate you and keep you signed in.
- To save and retrieve your calculations.
- To generate and verify share tokens for shared results.
- To respond to feedback or support requests if you provided an email.
- To monitor service health, detect abuse, and improve the product.
- If and when advertising is enabled (see § 5), to display advertising via Google AdSense. Personalised ads require your consent in the UK/EEA.
We do not sell your data. We do not share your account data with third parties except the infrastructure providers listed below.
5. Advertising and Google AdSense
We may use Google AdSense on the blog to fund the free calculator. When AdSense is active:
- Google may use cookies to serve relevant ads to you.
- In the UK and EEA we will ask for your consent before personalised ads appear. You can change or withdraw consent at any time.
- For more information about Google’s use of cookies for ads, see Google’s ad policies.
- We do not place ads on legal pages, account/dashboard pages, or empty pages.
6. Where your data is stored
We use the following infrastructure providers as data processors:
- Supabase — authentication and database. Account data and saved calculations are stored in their managed Postgres instances.
- Vercel — hosting for the frontend. Receives requests and serves the website.
- Render — hosting for the calculator backend API.
- Google AdSense — only if/when ads are enabled.
Each of those providers maintains its own security and privacy controls. Data may be processed in jurisdictions where these providers operate (typically the EU or US).
7. Your rights
Depending on your location (UK GDPR / EU GDPR / similar regimes elsewhere) you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your account and associated saved calculations.
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent for non-essential cookies (e.g. personalised advertising) at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection regulator.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the Contact page from the email address registered on your account.
8. How long we keep your data
Account, saved-calculation, and shared-result data are retained until you delete your account or request removal. Feedback messages are retained for up to 24 months. Server logs are typically retained for 30 days for security monitoring.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make a material change we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top and bottom of the page. Significant changes will also be highlighted on the homepage.
